donnelly news Clan Domnaill, of Cenél Eóghain. The name of O'Donnelly is said to derive from a great-great grandson of Domnaill, that is Donghaile. They were cited as chiefs of Feardroma, perhaps near Ballydonnelly, in county Tyrone. There is also a Fer Droma Lighen, a name remembered in the townland of Drumleene, Clonleig parish, barony of Raphoe, county Donegal. Of the same region, the sept of Cenél n-Echach Droma Lighen are cited in the Book of Ballymote and the Book of Lecan, descended from Eocho, son of Domhnall, son of Muirceartach Mac Earca.
The O'Donnellys are later cited at Castlecaulfield, alias Ballydonnelly (Baile Ui Donngaile), near Dungannon, in co. Tyrone.

The name Ua [F]laithbertaigh is associated as a king of Clann-Domhnaill in the Annals. Note:

Your right about donnghaille but he was a son of finnliath, brother of niall. he gave up the chieftainship for ailec(aileach in eng) out there in donnegal to becaume a pilgrim of the church somewhere around 935 AD They were fighting the Lochlanns (the vikings) That history is on the internet and walsh is good but after donnelly the great drops out of the royal records his line is continued through two people named Flann and Echdach.Flan may be Fland a daughter Her line desends 5 generations but Echdach goes on until it reaches Gilla Meic liacc Buite O donnelly who became bishop (coarb of st patrick) of Armagh and died in 1172.The line ends there but is continued in the 4 masters appendix with The death of Shane O neill who was fostered by the donnelly clan at benburb castle. Can you believe benburb had a castle! dudley donnelly was killed with him. Most of these records are available in the brits state papers as Elizabeth 1 collected all the chiefs of ireland and their relatives in her fiants so she would know how to control them. another good source for geneologies is Keeting history of ireland which can be read in the irish text society publications if you can find it. There is quite a bit now on the internet and I copy it out on flopys as I find it but havent had time to read it. The ulster annals are in three parts 1 in english the other two still not tranlated from irish. but if you take out the hs you can almost read the irish especially the tribal names and the repeat words of the annals which like marbad means slain not dead of old age but killed by someone and it usually names the killer. The old irish script is the western alphabet with a few greek letters and some separate symbols like the r as we see it is s(sh) in phonetic. enought for now continue this research and the Good God will answer our quest 'Seek and ye shall find" sys the Son. slan jd
