 Donnelly Tartan

My husband's grandmother came to the US in 1895 from Tyrone County. Her name was Mary Donnelly, her mother was Mary Agnes Donnelly. She married a Murphy. I have been investigating the tartan associated with Tyrone County, I've also heard it referred to as the Donnelly Tartan.

The currator of the Scottish Tartan Museum told me that very few Irish family tartans are "official" but that the Donnelly Tartan was indeed historically "official" and had been adopted as the County Tyrone tartan.

I'm just curious what that means exactly.

We are only starting to dig into Jeff's family history and were thrilled to find this website!
